As I get older, it’s easier to forget things.
Turns out that’s a good thing.
Leadership guru Dan Rockwell made a fascinating point a few weeks back: A good leader knows how to forget. They don’t dwell on past mistakes.
That creates negative thinking. And negative thinking doesn’t move you forward.
So when a sincere and dedicated employee consistently fails, a good leader doesn’t obsess about the failures.
Instead, a real leader realizes he or she has given the employee the wrong responsibilities. That the tasks are beyond the employee’s capacity.
Great advice from Dan: “Judge people by what they could do, not what they didn’t – their future, not their past.” So learn how to forget like a leader. Read the whole post.
